Liberty Safes vs. Cannon Safes

liberty safes

It’s difficult to choose the right gun safe. There are many great options, and each has its own pros and cons. Two popular choices for gun enthusiasts are Liberty safes and Cannon safes. Both brands are excellent and well-respected in their field. However, understanding their strengths and weaknesses will help you decide which option is better for you. Here’s what you need to know about Liberty safes vs. Cannon safes!

All About Liberty Safes

Liberty gun safes are 100% made in the USA and are manufactured from high-quality pickled and oiled steel. They are available in several sizes, perfect for collections of all sizes. From the Centurion 12 with a carrying capacity of 12 long guns to the Fatboy 64 Extreme, which carries 64, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect sized safe for your home.

Liberty safes are also fire resistant and can withstand temperatures of 12,000° for up to 90 minutes. Furthermore, you can outfit them with your choice of a mechanical lock or e-lock, depending on your preference. The solid steel structure of Liberty safes makes them one of the best options for avid and novice gun collectors alike.

All About Cannon Safes

Unlike Liberty safes, Cannon safes are made in Mexico, and are constructed from three pieces of steel, welded together. In the past, Cannon focused primarily on offering higher gauge steel safes, which came with locking mechanisms and automotive-style paint. However, their construction has changed, and they now offer 12 gauge steel as their highest gauge.

That being said, Cannon safes typically come with a 90-minute fire rating and are reasonably priced for their quality. Available in several sizes, Cannon is an excellent choice for first-time safe owners.

Liberty Safes vs. Cannon Safes

When deciding between Liberty safes vs. Cannon safes, it’s important to consider a few points.

Pricing

Both brands offer similar sizes for reasonable prices. Depending on which safe you choose, you can expect to pay a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.

Quality

Liberty safes are made by folding a sheet of steel into the box-like structure and then having the back machine welded on. This offers more strength than the Cannon’s multi-piece design for a similar price. For the price, Liberty safes tend to be a little better quality than what you might expect from a Cannon.

Availability

You can easily find both safes, but you can purchase Cannons from several major retailers, including:

  • Academy Sports
  • Amazon
  • Cabelas
  • Costco
  • Home Depot
  • Lowes
  • Walmart
  • And more

While Liberty safes aren’t as readily available as Cannon safes, they can still be easily purchased from Liberty Safe’s website or a distributor like North American Safes.

While both safes are great choices, it’s our opinion that Liberty is the better option for the money and will stand strong for years to come. If you’re interested in purchasing a Liberty gun safe, explore our options and get yours today!
